Schisandra Tincture (1 : 4) Schisandra (Schisandra chinensis) tincture made from berries What is Schisandra? Schisandra, also known as Chinese magnolia vine, has been described in traditional Chinese herbal knowledge for at least 2,000 years. The rose-coloured berries are still comparatively little known in many European markets. Their name “five-flavour berry” refers to their characteristic taste profile: sweet, salty, bitter, sour and pungent at the same time. Schisandra berries grow on perennial climbing plants. These lianas from the star anise family can reach heights of up to 8 metres. White, delicately scented flowers develop into rose-coloured berries reminiscent of currants. The berries grow closely together, similar to currants and grapes. The plant is native to northern China, Japan and Asian regions of Russia. In manufacturing our tincture, we follow the traditional use of Schisandra berries. We use ripe berries selected according to quality criteria, carefully dried and extracted with alcohol. The result is a tincture that meets our standards for raw material selection and processing. Schisandra in traditional herbal knowledge One of the older writings of traditional Chinese herbal knowledge gives special attention to Schisandra berries. In historical sources, the berries are associated with traditional concepts such as Jing, Qi and Shen. This context is cultural and historical and is not intended as a health or medicinal claim. In their regions of origin, the rose-coloured berries are used in various ways, for example in herbal extracts, tea preparations and tinctures.
