Dyer's woad is a plant from the cruciferous family. With its blue-green leaves and yellow, rapeseed-like flowers, it may look rather modest at first glance. From a botanical perspective, its adaptability to different site conditions is particularly interesting. The blue colouration of the leaves comes from a natural wax coating that helps protect the plant from dryness. Isatis tinctoria is a robust plant that can adapt to dry, warm and more humid phases. Inside the plant, which can grow up to 150 cm high, a branched conducting tissue supplies the extensive root system with water. The plant is native to Western Asia and Europe. For our product, we use ground dyer's woad roots from sustainable cultivation. Not a modern invention Dyer's woad already played an important role in the Iron Age. At that time, the plant was valued mainly for its dyeing properties. The indigo blue of dyer's woad was historically significant. Dyer's woad has also been described in traditional botanical texts for a long time, including under the name "Banlangen". Dyer's woad is also known in European herbal and botanical literature. In this food supplement, the focus is on the ground root as a plant-based ingredient for supplementing the daily diet. Woad Tincture (1 : 4) Woad (Isatis tinctoria) tincture made from roots What is woad? Woad is a plant from the crucifer family with distinctive botanical features. The bluish colour of the leaves comes from a natural wax coating that helps protect the plant during dry conditions. In this way, woad is adapted to dryness, heat and temporary moisture. Inside the plant, which can grow up to 150 cm high, there is a pronounced conducting structure that supplies the extensive root system with water. The plant is native to Western Asia and Europe. For our product, we use ground woad roots from sustainable cultivation. A plant with a long history Woad already played an important role in the Iron Age.
