What is Baikal Skullcap?

Baikal Skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis) is one of the well-known plants in traditional Chinese herbal practice. From a botanical perspective, the plant is also interesting because of its distinctive appearance. With its bright green leaves and purple flowers, it has a striking look. The flowers probably gave Baikal Skullcap its name: on closer inspection, they resemble small helmets from long-past times.

The plant grows to approx. 30 cm and has specific requirements for its environment. Baikal Skullcap prefers stony coasts or river plains. Streams are also a typical habitat. Frost and cold do not bother Baikal Skullcap much, so it also occurs in cold regions. The plant is mainly found in China, Japan, Korea and Mongolia.

Characteristic features include the compact growth form, the distinctive flower shape and the clear botanical identification through the name Scutellaria baicalensis. These details help classify the plant clearly.

For our products, we process the roots of the plant. As expected from Phönix der Lebenskraft, we place great importance on carefully selected raw materials and controlled processing.

That is why we make sure to use plants that meet our quality criteria.

The tablet form offers a clear and easy-to-plan dosage form: the ground root is processed into tablets together with the excipients listed below. This keeps the product composition transparent and makes the daily intake easy to follow.

Baikal Skullcap in traditional Chinese herbal practice

In TCM, Baikal Skullcap has been described for more than 2,000 years. Knowledgeable users in Asia value the plant above all for its versatile role within classical herbal traditions. In TCM, plants and foods are classified according to specific properties. Baikal Skullcap is traditionally classified as bitter and cold.

The traditional classification refers to historical descriptions of the plant and its root. For this product description, the focus is on herbal tradition, the plant part used and the dosage form.

Traditional descriptions focus mainly on the root of Scutellaria baicalensis. In our tablets, the ground root is processed, making Baikal Skullcap easy to integrate into a daily nutrition routine in a practical dosage form.

Baikal Skullcap is also described in Western botanical literature. The focus is on botanical features and the natural composition of the root. The roots naturally contain various plant constituents such as resins, tannins, essential oils and flavonoids.

The clear indication of the botanical name, the plant part used and the recommended daily intake makes the product easier to classify. This keeps the focus on composition, tradition and practical use.

Baikal Skullcap is also known to many readers from the books of Stephen Harrod Buhner.

Baikal Skullcap tablets with selected excipients

This food supplement is made as a tablet with ground Baikal Skullcap root and the excipients listed below.

The formulation is designed for the tablet form. In addition to the ground root, the excipients listed in the ingredients table are used for tablet stability and processing.

Ingredients

The ingredients are listed transparently so that the tablet composition can be quickly understood. This is especially helpful when comparing product information.

IngredientContent per daily intake
Baikal Skullcap - ground root
(Scutellaria baicalensis)
approx. 2400 mg

In addition, two common cellulose excipients with the abbreviations MCC / HPMC are used for tablet stability, along with a very small amount (a weight share of only a few per mille) of magnesium stearate.

Suggested intake

Take 5 tablets per day with sufficient liquid.

It is preferable not to take these 5 tablets together, but separately (e.g. two tablets in the morning, two at midday and one in the evening) with sufficient liquid. Taking them with or shortly after meals is generally not recommended; taking them before a meal is therefore preferable. This recommendation does not have to be followed strictly. An alternative daily intake would be to take one tablet five times a day, i.e. morning, mid-morning, midday, afternoon and evening, each at intervals of about 2-3 hours.

Notes

Food supplements are generally not a substitute for a balanced and varied diet and a healthy lifestyle. Store protected from heat, dry and out of the reach of children.
The recommended daily intake stated here must not be exceeded.

Alles Gute MW.
