Product information "Barberry (Berberis vulgaris) Tincture"
Barberry Tincture (1 : 4)
Barberry (Sauerdorn, Berberis vulgaris) tincture made from ground root bark
What is barberry (Berberis vulgaris)?
Barberry is known by several names in German-speaking countries, including Sauerdorn and Essigbeere. It is a shrub that can grow up to three metres tall and was originally native to North Africa. The name barberry is historically associated with the Berber people and later became established in Europe.
Many hikers and wild animals have mixed feelings about this deciduous shrub, as contact with its thorns can be unpleasant. Its appearance, however, is striking. The yellow-brown to grey bark looks rather plain at first glance, but beneath it lies a bright yellow layer. The fragrant flowers also shine in a vivid yellow colour and are reminiscent of buttercups. Over the seasons, scarlet, edible fruits develop. Because these fruits have a naturally very sour taste, the German folk names Essigbeere and Sauerdorn became common. In terms of habitat, Berberis vulgaris prefers dry to moderately moist, calcareous soils and grows in light as well as partial shade, often at woodland edges and in light alluvial areas.
For our products, we use ground root bark from selected cultivation as the basis of this tincture.
A traditionally known plant from antiquity and the Middle Ages
Berberis vulgaris is described in historical herbals and traditional plant literature. The root bark and its naturally occurring plant compounds are often the focus of these botanical descriptions.
Among the botanically interesting constituents of barberry are various alkaloids. One of the best-known is berberine, a naturally occurring plant compound also described in specialist literature, including by Stephen Harrod Buhner.

Notes
Food supplements are not a substitute for a balanced and varied diet and a healthy lifestyle. Store protected from heat, dry and strictly out of reach of children. The stated recommended daily intake must not be exceeded.
The tincture is naturally cloudy and must be shaken before use. A slightly unpleasant taste comes directly from the taste of barberry and is characteristic of the product.

Ganzheitliche Wirkung – mein neues Lieblingsprodukt!
