Product information "California Poppy (Eschscholzia californica) Tincture"
California Poppy Tincture (1:4 Preparation)
What is California poppy (Eschscholzia californica)?
As the name suggests, California poppy belongs to the poppy family. Typical for poppy plants, its yellow to orange flowers consist of four petals and numerous stamens. The plant, which grows up to 60 cm high, originally comes from America. In 1816, the Berlin naturalist Adelbert von Chamisso discovered it there. He brought some seeds to Europe and named the plant after his travelling companion Johann Friedrich Eschscholtz. The botanical name Eschscholzia californica was born. Over time, further names became common, including California poppy, golden poppy, cup of gold and sleepyhead. The names cup of gold and sleepyhead refer to the two sepals surrounding the flower. Shortly before flowering, this cap opens at the base and is gradually shed by the plant.
California poppy prefers nutrient-rich soils and is especially at home in open grassland. Its bright flowers can usually be seen only in sunny weather and only between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
For our products, we use ground herb from carefully selected cultivation.
