Product information "Christmas Bush (Alchornea cordifolia) - Tincture"
Alchornea Cordifolia Tincture (1 : 4)
Alchornea Cordifolia tincture made from ground leaves
What is Alchornea Cordifolia (Christmas Bush)?
Alchornea cordifolia is a plant that grows mainly in tropical Central Africa. The plant, also known as Christmas Bush, can be found in countries including Senegal, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa and Angola.
Alchornea cordifolia grows into a shrub with large green leaves and clustered fruits and can reach a height of up to seven metres. The plant prefers acidic soils and is mainly found along riverbanks and in marshland areas.
For our products, we use ground Alchornea cordifolia leaves from cultivated sources. Careful selection of raw materials and processing are especially important to us.
Traditional botanical context
In various African regions, Alchornea cordifolia is known from traditional botanical practice. In particular, the leaves of the plant are described in different cultural and ethnobotanical contexts. In this tincture, the focus is on the botanical origin, the ground leaves and use as a botanical supplement to the daily diet. The description remains deliberately neutral and refers to the plant and its constituents.
In Western countries, Alchornea cordifolia is still a less widely known botanical plant. Although scientific literature increasingly discusses its plant constituents, the individual components have not yet all been conclusively described. The following constituents are mentioned in literature in connection with Alchornea cordifolia:
- Terpenes (naturally occurring plant compounds found in many plants)
- Sterols (plant constituents with a sterol-type structure)
- Flavonoids (secondary plant compounds naturally present in plants)
- Tannins (plant tannins with a tart taste profile)
- Saponins (secondary plant compounds found in various plant species)
- Alkaloids (naturally occurring nitrogen-containing plant compounds)
- Also: fatty acids and carbohydrates
