What is lemon balm tincture (Melissa officinalis)?

You have probably noticed the characteristic scent of lemon balm before. The plant has a long tradition as a cultivated herb and was already grown in medieval monastery gardens.

Originally, lemon balm comes from the Mediterranean region. It prefers warm, rather dry locations with nutrient-rich soil. The herbaceous plant with white flowers can grow up to 120 cm and, depending on the location, can reach an age of up to 30 years.

For our tincture, we use lemon balm leaves. They are carefully harvested, dried and extracted with alcohol. This creates a 1:4 preparation made from dried lemon balm leaves in liquid form.

A plant with a long tradition

Lemon balm has been described and valued in European herbal tradition for centuries. The aromatic plant also had a long-standing place in monastery gardens. Our tincture follows this tradition and is intended to supplement the daily diet.

Melissa officinalis contains plant-typical constituents such as essential oils, bitter substances, tannins (e.g. caffeic acid and rosmarinic acid), resins, flavonoids, glycosides, mucilage, saponins and thymol.

The tincture contains lemon balm leaves, ethanol, water and traces of acetic acid from organic apple cider vinegar (below 1%).

Lemon Balm Tincture Recommended Intake

The recommended daily intake is 260 drops (approx. 8 millilitres) per day, preferably divided into four intakes of approx. 65 drops each. Start with only 160 drops (approx. 4.9 millilitres) per day - or four times 40 drops - and increase over a few days up to the longer-term daily intake. Use the supplied pipette to count the drops.
