Product information "Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) Tincture"

Passionflower tincture (1 : 4)

What is passionflower (Passiflora incarnata)?

If you ever have the chance to see a true passionflower in tropical rainforests, it is hard not to be amazed. On a stem of around 5 meters grows an extraordinary blossom that is not only unique, but also impressive. Passionflowers come in different colors. They may be white, red, or violet. What they all share is their remarkable symmetry.

For our products, we use the whole herb. In the familiar Phönix der Lebenskraft quality. This means carefully selected quality from organic cultivation. For the tincture, the herb is used, meaning the aerial plant parts without the fruits. The liquid form can be dosed easily with the pipette and integrated into the daily routine.

The traditional plant of the Maya and Aztecs

Passionflower continues to fascinate people today. In earlier times, it was also valued for its beauty and distinctive botanical features. Archaeological sites in North America have opened up a new perspective on the plant. Scientists found passionflower seeds there that had been stored for several thousand years. Today it is known that the Maya and the Aztecs in particular knew and used the herb. Among indigenous peoples, passionflower had a firm place in traditional plant knowledge.

The first written records about Passiflora incarnata date back to 1552. In the so-called herbal book, the Indigenous scholar Martin de la Cruz summarized various traditional uses among the Aztecs. His interest in the plant may also have been connected with the high regard in which passionflower was held among Indigenous peoples of North America. They used the herb traditionally in various contexts. In this text, such references are presented purely as cultural and historical background.

From the 16th century onward, passionflower also became better known in Europe. It took another 300 years, however, before Passiflora became more widely recognized. In the 19th century, numerous reports about the beautiful plant led to strong interest in herbal literature. In Europe, Passiflora also received further attention through its inclusion in botanical and plant-related reference works. This historical context is not a health-related claim about the product.
