Product information "Senega root (Polygala tenuifolia) - Tincture"
Senega root tincture (1 : 4)
Senega root (Polygala tenuifolia) tincture made from the roots
What is Senega root?
The plant commonly known as rattlesnake root has long been valued in North American plant traditions, especially for its roots. It grows in forests, prairies and moist riverbanks when the soil conditions are suitable. The plant prefers stony and calcareous soils. Despite stems of up to 50 cm, the flowering plant appears rather modest at first glance. This is mainly due to its very small green to white flowers. The hard, woody rootstock is more distinctive. The roots do not simply grow horizontally or vertically; they are conical and twisted into one another. The scent of this milkwort family plant is also interesting: Senega roots have a wintergreen-like aroma.
The term Senega root can refer to both the plant and the root part used. For this product description, the key point is that the root part of the botanical species Polygala tenuifolia is used. The extract is designed as a food supplement and is intended to complement the daily diet.
We use Senega roots for the production of our tincture. The roots are carefully processed and made into an alcoholic 1:4 extract in a practical drop format. This preserves the character of the root used, while the supplied pipette allows the drops to be measured easily.
Senega root in traditional plant knowledge
Senega root has long been described in various plant traditions. In traditional Chinese plant knowledge, plants and foods are classified according to certain properties; Senega root is described there, among other things, as bitter and cold. These details are provided for historical and botanical context.
Such traditional classifications are mentioned here only as cultural background. The focus of this product text is the plant, the root part used, the composition and the recommended daily intake.
In the Western world, Senega root is also mainly described because of its naturally occurring plant constituents. The roots contain a range of naturally occurring substance groups such as resins, tannins, essential oils and flavonoids. The focus remains on the plant, the root part used and the practical presentation as a tincture.
Senega root is also known to many from the plant literature of Stephen Harrod Buhner.
The botanical classic from North America
One thing first: Senega roots are not really a secret, as the roots were already described in Europe in the 18th century. Yet, as with many things, traditional plant knowledge can easily fade from view. Senega root is therefore especially interesting for people who value classic plant materials and a simple drop application.
The botanical name Polygala tenuifolia provides clear identification. At the same time, the German name Senegawurzel remains familiar to many users searching for this plant. This description therefore combines the common name with the botanical name and the tincture format. Clear wording helps users connect Senega root drops, tincture and botanical name in the shop.
Senega root naturally contains various plant constituents such as:
saponins (e.g. senegin), sorbitol derivatives, wintergreen oil, phenolic acids and sterols.
Senega root tincture with a clear formula
This food supplement combines Senega root extract with ethanol, water and traces of acetic acid from organic apple cider vinegar (below 1%). It contains no artificial colourings, no flavourings and no added sugar.
The drop format is suitable for those who prefer a liquid form and want to count drops. The tincture is naturally cloudy; the bottle should therefore be shaken well before use. Please follow the recommended daily intake each time you use the product.
