What is Thyme?

Most of us know thyme only as a delicious culinary herb that gives Mediterranean dishes their distinctive flavor. However, thyme was chosen as the "Medicinal Plant of the Year" in 2006 for good reason, as it has a long tradition as a healing herb.

Originally native to the Mediterranean region, true thyme can now be found wherever it gets sufficient warmth during summer. The plant prefers hot summers as well as dry, calcareous soils. This perennial subshrub from the mint family exudes a pleasant aroma and, with its pink blossoms, is also a feast for the eyes.

For our tincture, we use only dried thyme herb from ecologically valuable cultivation. It is carefully dried, and all valuable compounds are extracted using pure alcohol.

A popular healing herb of the Romans

Even the Romans knew that thyme was more than just a spice. They mainly used it for headaches and as a tonic. In the 11th century, Roman thyme found its way into monastery gardens in the German-speaking world, where it was highly valued for coughs and colds. Thyme was also used for hoarseness, gum problems, and digestive issues. To this day, the herb plays an important role in European folk medicine.

Essential oil (thymol, carvacrol), tannins, bitter substances, monoterpenes, triterpenes, flavonoids, saponins, and resins.

Additionally contains traces of acetic acid from organic apple cider vinegar (below 1%) and pure water.

Thyme Tincture Recommended Use

The long-term recommended daily dose is 260 drops (approx. 8 ml) per day, ideally divided into four servings of about 65 drops each. Start with only 160 drops (approx. 4.9 ml) per day – or four times 40 drops – and gradually increase over several days until reaching the full daily dose. Use the supplied pipette to count the drops.

Dietary supplements are not a substitute for a balanced and varied diet and a healthy lifestyle. Store in a cool, dry place and keep out of reach of children. The recommended daily intake should not be exceeded. The tincture is naturally cloudy and should be shaken before use.

Important: Contains 60% alcohol by volume. – Children from the age of 10 can safely take the same low maximum daily dose (according to recognized phytotherapy literature), provided the relatively small alcohol content is well tolerated. No side effects or contraindications are known (see culinary use as a spice).
