Ashwagandha is a nightshade plant and has long been described in Ayurvedic plant tradition. Its role is often compared with ginseng in TCM, which is why Ashwagandha is also known as “Indian ginseng”. The origin of the nightshade plant is thought to be in Africa. However, Indian ginseng is also native to Pakistan, China, the Mediterranean region and India. The herbaceous shrub can reach a height of up to 2 metres and, with its oval leaves and cherry-like flowers, looks very similar to the well-known physalis. The hard red berries are not intended for consumption. For food supplements, mainly the root is processed. This product uses ground ashwagandha root; it is not a root extract.
