Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) tincture

Lemon Balm Tincture (1 : 4) Lemon Balm (Melissae officinalis folium) tincture made from dried leaves What is Lemon Balm Tincture (Melissa officinalis)? You have probably encountered the enchanting fragrance of lemon balm before. Not without reason, this healing plant is often called “lemon balm” in popular language. But Melissa officinalis has far more to offer than its scent alone. In the Middle Ages, this plant was cultivated in nearly every monastery garden for its many uses. Originally native to the Mediterranean region, lemon balm thrives in warm, dry, and nutrient-rich soils. The plant can reach a height of up to 120 cm, producing delicate white blossoms. When cultivated, this hardy perennial adapts well to central Europe and can live up to 30 years depending on its environment. For our tincture, we exclusively use lemon balm leaves, following traditional practices. The leaves are harvested under strict quality standards, carefully dried, and extracted with alcohol to ensure that all valuable compounds are fully preserved and available in their purest form. A medicinal plant with a long tradition Lemon balm has been used in monastic medicine for centuries to address a wide range of complaints. Hildegard of Bingen wrote: “Its warmth touches the spleen and therefore gladdens the heart.” The medieval physician Arnaldus de Villanova prescribed lemon balm for depression and heart issues, while the famous physician Paracelsus praised it as “the best herb for the heart of all that the earth provides.” In traditional European folk medicine, Melissa officinalis has been successfully used for centuries. It is primarily applied in cases of digestive complaints, headaches, mood swings, toothache, earache, muscle and joint discomfort, sleep disorders, and stomach pain. Melissa officinalis contains valuable compounds such as: essential oils, bitter substances, tannins (including caffeic acid and rosmarinic acid), resins, flavonoids, glycosides, mucilage, saponins, thymol, and vitamin C.
