Valerian Tincture (1:4)
Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) tincture made from the root
Valerian is a proven dietary supplement made from the dried root of the valerian plant, which is native to Central Europe and also widely known as a tea herb.
What is Valerian (Valeriana officinalis)?
Anyone who has ever smelled valerian root will not forget it easily. Its intoxicating scent has a magical attraction for cats, which is why the plant is often referred to as "cat’s herb." Aside from its unique scent, the plant with its reddish-white flowers may seem quite ordinary at first glance. This perennial, which can grow up to 1.5 meters tall, is native to Europe and Asia and prefers to grow in forests, moist meadows, and along riverbanks.
For our products, we use only roots from ecologically valuable organic cultivation. Don’t worry—our tablets are pleasant to take.
A Healing Plant with a Long Tradition
Valerian was highly regarded even in ancient times and considered a universal remedy. In the Middle Ages, the root was regarded as the most effective remedy for pain, respiratory ailments, and eye conditions. The famous herbalist Sebastian Kneipp also praised the healing power of this plant and dedicated an entry to it in his 1894 plant atlas. Kneipp listed the following conditions that he supported with valerian: “chest, abdominal, and headaches, upset stomach, chronic respiratory ailments, nervous dizziness, and sleep problems.”
The calming effect of valerian root is mainly due to its sesquiterpenes and valeric acid content. Sesquiterpenes support the function of GABA receptors in nerve cells, promoting relaxation and having a soothing, antispasmodic effect on the body.
