Barberry (Berberis vulgaris) - alcohol-free tincture

Product information "Barberry (Berberis vulgaris) - alcohol-free tincture"

Barberry alcohol-free tincture (1 : 4)

Barberry (Sauerdorn) tincture made from ground root bark

What is barberry (Berberis vulgaris)?

Barberry, also known in German as Sauerdorn or Essigbeere, is a shrub that can grow up to three metres high and was originally native to North Africa. The name "Berberitze" is associated with the Berbers who lived in this region and was later adopted in the European context by the Romans.

Although the shrub may look defensive because of its thorns, its appearance is still appealing. The yellow-brown to grey bark conceals a bright golden-yellow layer, while the fragrant yellow flowers are reminiscent of buttercups. Over the seasons, scarlet edible fruits develop from them and are known for their distinctly tart taste.

Barberry prefers dry to moderately moist, calcareous soils and grows in both light and partial shade. This is why it is often found along forest edges and in open floodplain areas.

For our products, we use ground root bark from valuable cultivation. It forms the basis of this alcohol-free 1:4 preparation.

Barberry is known by several names in German-speaking regions, including Sauerdorn and Essigbeere. It is a shrub that can grow up to three metres high and is traditionally associated with a long history of use and cultivation in Europe. The name Berberitze is often linked to the historical term Berber. Some hikers and many wild animals have mixed feelings about this deciduous shrub, as contact with its thorns can be unpleasant. Visually, however, barberry has a distinctive appearance. Its yellow-brown to grey bark looks rather plain at first glance, but beneath it lies a bright yellow layer. The fragrant flowers, also bright yellow, are reminiscent of buttercups. Over the seasons, scarlet edible fruits develop. Because of their distinctly sour taste, the common names Essigbeere and Sauerdorn became established. In terms of habitat, barberry prefers dry to moderately moist soils that are also calcareous. Since Berberis vulgaris can grow in light as well as partial shade, it is often found at forest edges and in light floodplain areas. For our products, we use ground roots from selected cultivation. Barberry root contains characteristic plant constituents such as alkaloids, including berberine. Barberry in traditional botanical literature Berberis vulgaris was described in botanical and herbal literature as early as antiquity. It was also mentioned in medieval herbals and traditional sources. These references are provided solely for botanical and cultural-historical context and are not intended as a description of medical use. The special role of barberry in botanical literature is linked, among other things, to its characteristic plant constituents. Berberine, a naturally occurring constituent, is frequently mentioned in specialist literature. Barberry is also known from publications by Stephen Harrod Buhner. Barberry (Berberis vulgaris) - 100g Powder

Barberry Powder Barberry (Berberis vulgaris) powder made from root bark What is barberry (Berberis vulgaris)? In our region, barberry is known by several names, including sauerdorn and vinegar berry. It is a shrub originally native to North Africa and is said to owe its name to the Berber population of that region. After the plant was introduced to Europe, the name barberry became established. Barberry can be a plant of contrasts for hikers and wildlife alike. Contact with its thorns is unpleasant, but its appearance is striking. The bark of the shrub is initially yellow-brown to grey, with a bright yellow layer beneath. The fragrant flowers are also bright yellow, similar to buttercups, and develop over the seasons into scarlet, edible fruits. These fruits are known for their distinctly sour taste, which led to the traditional names vinegar berry and sauerdorn. As for its preferred location, barberry is selective. It grows best in dry to moderately moist, calcareous soils and can thrive in full sun as well as partial shade. It is often found at forest edges and in open riparian woodland. For our products, we use ground root bark. The root bark is finely milled and provided as a plant-based raw material in food-grade quality. The fine consistency makes the powder easy to weigh and suitable for different recipes and mixtures. Barberry in traditional herbal knowledge Berberis vulgaris was already described in traditional herbal knowledge in antiquity. Historical sources mention different plant parts and uses; these references are traditional in nature and do not constitute a claim about the effects of this product. Interest in barberry is associated, among other things, with its plant compound profile. These compounds include alkaloids such as berberine, which are often mentioned in botanical descriptions in connection with Berberis vulgaris. Our powder is a practical form for anyone looking for a finely milled plant-based raw material made from barberry root bark. Ingredients Barberry (Berberis vulgaris), root bark Note We offer the powder as a plant-based raw material (food-grade quality) without a specific intended use.
