What is bitter melon (Momordica charantia)?

In this country, bitter melon is still considered something of an insider tip. In its countries of origin, China and India, the plant has long been known and is valued in various nutritional traditions.
The herbaceous climbing plant contains interesting natural components and also stands out because of its appearance. On shoots up to five metres long, bitter melon forms bright yellow flowers with a delicate vanilla scent. The female flowers develop cucumber-like fruits with a wart-like surface over the summer. When ripe, the fruits open and reveal the red pulp.
The plant, also known as bitter gourd, balsam pear and bitter cucumber, does not grow everywhere. It has particular environmental requirements and prefers a warm, humid and sunny location. Bitter melon can develop especially well in nutrient-rich and humus-rich soil.

For our tablets, we use the leaves and fruits of bitter melon. The processed plant parts come from carefully selected cultivation. They are cut into small pieces, gently dried and finely ground. Only when all processing steps meet our quality criteria is the raw material processed into tablets.
