The delicate plant with its mallow-like, five-petalled flowers originates from Mexico and Central America. Today, Sida acuta can also be found in many other parts of the world. Due to its spiny seeds and strong, deep-reaching roots, it is described in some regions as a very resilient plant. The stems of the plant, which can grow up to two metres high, become woody and hard over time. Once Sida acuta has established itself in a location, it often remains there even under changing conditions such as long dry periods, heavy rainfall or grazing.
