Alcohol-Based Tinctures – Potent, Deep-Acting, Unique
Most producers rely on traditional maceration when making tinctures — soaking herbs in an alcohol-water mixture for several weeks. However, this method results in only a partial extraction: once an equilibrium between the plant and solvent is reached, no further active compounds dissolve. Many valuable substances remain in the plant residue.
We take a completely different approach: Our tinctures are produced exclusively using vacuum Soxhlet extraction — a method still rarely used in Europe. This is a continuous extraction process that yields a significantly higher concentration of active ingredients than traditional maceration.
A 1:4 Soxhlet extract contains about twice as many dissolved compounds as a conventional 1:4 maceration extract — and approaches the potency of a 1:2 or even 1:1 macerate. Our 1:1 “Life Elixir” tinctures are in a league of their own — and you will feel the difference.
To preserve heat-sensitive plant compounds, we carry out the Soxhlet extraction under partial vacuum. This significantly lowers the boiling point, keeping ingredients stable and biologically active.
Our alcohol-based extracts contain approximately 65% alcohol — a concentration proven to extract the widest range of active plant compounds. You get not only a potent extract, but also a product that captures the full spectrum of the plant.
Alcohol-Free Tinctures (Syrups) – Gentle, Sweet, and Effective
For anyone who wants or needs to avoid alcohol, we offer our tinctures in a non-alcoholic version — as our popular glycerin syrups.
Glycerin is an excellent plant-based solvent — mild, pleasantly sweet, and well tolerated. Since it has a slightly lower extraction capacity than alcohol, we recommend a slightly higher dosage (approx. +30%) compared to the alcoholic version.
To still give you the full power of the plants, we use a two-step process:
- Step 1: An intensive ultrasonic extraction, which breaks open the plant cells using sound waves. This allows for better release of active ingredients — all at under 30 °C, making it exceptionally gentle.
- Step 2: An additional 6-week maceration ensures that every last bit of plant energy is extracted.
Our solvent — also known as the menstruum — consists of:
- 60% plant-based glycerin (organic quality, mildly sweet)
- 39% purified water
- 1% organic apple cider vinegar
The apple cider vinegar lowers the pH value and supports the extraction of sensitive or difficult-to-dissolve compounds such as alkaloids.
