Bidens pilosa is a South American plant that is now found worldwide as a so-called invasive plant. Its wide distribution is probably linked mainly to its adaptability. The plant tolerates many different soil conditions. Whether the ground is sandy, loamy, dry or depleted, Bidens pilosa can cope with many environments. It can even grow at altitudes of up to 3600 metres. Bidens pilosa is considered resilient in heat, longer dry periods and cold spells. The plant is known for its adaptability and strong growth. It can displace other plants in its surroundings, as Bidens pilosa is one of the allelopathic plants. It can reduce competing plant populations by up to 50% and is therefore regarded as a pest in some countries. This makes its botanical profile especially interesting for traditional plant knowledge. With its white flowers and orange-coloured centre, beggar-ticks is an attractive plant. Its name comes from its seeds. They are thin, black and have an elongated two-toothed tip. This is where the name Bidens comes from: “bi” means two and “dens” means tooth. The seeds are also responsible for the plant’s remarkable ability to spread. They attach strongly and can travel on shoes, clothing, jackets and animals. For our products, we use ground leaves from valuable cultivation. Bidens Pilosa in Ayurveda and TCM In Ayurveda, beggar-ticks is traditionally described and valued. Traditional Indian plant knowledge includes Bidens pilosa in various contexts. The focus here is on the long-standing tradition surrounding this plant. Bidens pilosa is also traditionally classified in TCM. In classical descriptions, it is associated with concepts such as “heat” and plant profiles traditionally described as eliminating. These statements refer to traditional teachings and do not replace a health-related assessment under modern food regulations. More than 100 plant constituents have been described in Bidens pilosa so far, including flavonoids, terpenes, lipids, benzenoids and polyacetylenes. Bidens Pilosa Tincture Composition This food supplement contains an extract from Bidens pilosa leaves, ethanol, water and traces of acetic acid from organic apple cider vinegar. Bidens Pilosa Tincture Recommended Intake The intended long-term daily amount is 230 drops (approx. 7 millilitres) per day, ideally divided into five intakes of approx. 46 drops each. Start with a total of only 165 drops (approx. 5 millilitres) per day – or five times 33 drops - and then increase over several days to the long-term daily amount. Use the supplied pipette to count the drops. Notes Food supplements are generally not a substitute for a balanced and varied diet and a healthy lifestyle. The tincture is naturally cloudy and must be shaken before use. Contains 50% alcohol by volume, but only with a small daily amount of about 3 grams.
