Japanese Knotweed (Polygonum cuspidatum, also known as Fallopia japonica) Tincture – made from the ground root
What is Japanese Knotweed?
Japanese Knotweed, with its small white flowers and countless leaves, may at first appear rather unremarkable, somewhat resembling bamboo. Originally native to Asia, it has since spread across much of the world as one of the most invasive plants. Its rapid expansion is due to its extraordinary strength, which allows it to grow even through concrete. While it prefers riverbanks and streams, the plant readily adapts to all kinds of environments and soil types. When conditions are favorable, Japanese Knotweed can grow up to 30 cm a day, displaying an incredible persistence that enables it to displace nearly everything in its immediate surroundings.
For our products, we process only plants that meet our high purity standards and grow in natural and uncontaminated soils.
Japanese Knotweed in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
In the Western world, Japanese Knotweed is still considered something of an insider’s tip. However, this plant holds remarkable potential and is rich in a wide range of nutrients. Alongside flavonoids and resveratrol, Japanese Knotweed also contains an abundance of vitamins and minerals, especially vitamins A, C, and zinc.
Resveratrol is commonly known as a component of red wine and is appreciated for its antioxidant properties, which are associated with supporting heart health and enhancing memory performance. Antioxidants are generally recognized as helping to protect our body’s cells, and the resveratrol content in Japanese Knotweed significantly surpasses that found in grapes.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Japanese Knotweed has been used for over 2000 years and is valued by doctors and practitioners alike. It is particularly appreciated for its strength and its ability to gently but effectively cleanse the body. According to TCM, the body is permeated by a complex energy system flowing through so-called meridians, each linked to organs such as the lungs, heart, or bladder. Japanese Knotweed is believed to act along these meridians and is often recommended in cases of heavy infestation by disruptive intruders. These invaders, often invisible to the human eye, can enter the body through air or food. Some, however, prefer an intermediate host that thrives on grasses and forests during warm seasons. Through the bite of such an insect, the intruders can enter the body of mammals and cause significant damage. TCM practitioners rely on the power of Japanese Knotweed to effectively counteract these invaders.
