Japanese Knotweed Tincture (1:4)
Japanese Knotweed (Polygonum cuspidatum, Resveratrol) Tincture made from the ground root
What is Japanese Knotweed?
With its small white flowers and countless leaves, Japanese Knotweed may appear rather unremarkable at first glance, somewhat resembling bamboo. Originally native to Asia, it has since spread across much of the world as one of the most invasive plants. Its rapid spread is due to its extraordinary strength, which even allows it to push through concrete. While the plant prefers riverbanks and streams, it adapts to nearly any location and soil type. When it thrives, Japanese Knotweed can grow up to 30 cm per day, demonstrating incredible persistence and displacing nearly everything in its immediate surroundings.
For our products, we only use plants that meet our strict purity standards and grow in natural, uncontaminated soil.
Japanese Knotweed in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
In the Western world, Japanese Knotweed has recently begun to attract attention, though it is still considered something of an insider’s tip. This remarkable plant is packed with nutrients, including flavonoids and resveratrol, as well as numerous vitamins and minerals. Particularly noteworthy is its high content of vitamins A, C, and zinc.
Resveratrol is widely known as a component of red wine and is valued for its antioxidant properties, which are associated with supporting heart health and enhancing memory function. Antioxidants are generally believed to help protect our body’s cells — and Japanese Knotweed’s resveratrol content even surpasses that of grapes in a striking way.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Japanese Knotweed has been used for over 2000 years and remains highly valued by doctors and practitioners. It is especially appreciated for its strength and ability to gently yet effectively cleanse the body. According to TCM, the body is traversed by a complex system of energy pathways called meridians, each linked to specific organs such as the lungs, heart, and bladder. Japanese Knotweed is believed to act along these meridians, and it is often used against significant invasions of disruptive intruders. These intruders are often invisible to the human eye and can enter the body through air or food. Others prefer an intermediate host, such as insects that thrive in grasses and forests during warm seasons. Through their bite, such intruders can enter the bodies of mammals and cause significant damage. TCM relies on Japanese Knotweed to effectively counteract these invaders.
Japanese Knotweed is also well known from the works of Stephen Harrod Buhner on Lyme disease and co-infections.
