Neem (Azadirachta indica) tablets made from finely ground leaves
What is Neem?
Neem, also known as Nim or Indian Lilac, is a tree that has been revered for thousands of years for its remarkable qualities. Originally native to India, the neem tree produces reddish-violet blossoms with a pleasant fragrance reminiscent of lilac. In summer, golden-yellow, cherry-sized fruits develop. The leaves resemble those of the European ash tree, but that is where the similarities end. Growing up to 40 meters tall, the neem tree thrives even in hot tropical climates and is considered resilient and undemanding.
The “Gift of Heaven,” as Indians lovingly call the neem tree, can live for up to 200 years. According to Indian tradition, the goddess Sitala, worshipped as a healer, is said to reside within the tree. The importance of the neem tree is also reflected in its name: “Nim” is derived from the Sanskrit word “Nimba,” which translates as “disease reliever.”
For our products, we use only high-quality, finely ground neem leaves, ensuring the highest biological purity.
The most important medicinal plant in Ayurveda
Neem is already mentioned in ancient Sanskrit texts. Known as a true “village pharmacy,” it plays a central role in Ayurveda. Traditional healers use neem to support the body’s natural defenses. With its cooling, cleansing, and drying properties, it is regarded in Indian medicine as a supportive remedy for:
- Skin
- Mental balance
- Digestion
- Stomach and intestinal tract
- Thyroid function
- Oral hygiene and teeth
Neem is also traditionally used for cellular strengthening and to help balance blood sugar levels.
What’s inside:
Although neem has been valued for thousands of years, not all of its constituents are fully understood. So far, the following have been identified:
- Quercetin – an antioxidant that may protect the body from free radicals
- Limonoids such as nimbin, nimbidin, and azadirachtin (limonoids are said to have antiviral potential; azadirachtin is the compound the neem tree itself uses to ward off pests)
