Proper Use of Supplements

Proper Use of Herbal Supplements

Choosing to support your health with herbal preparations is not just a return to nature – it’s also a step toward personal responsibility. Many people today turn to natural remedies because they sense that conventional medicine often reaches its limits when it comes to chronic conditions.

We do not wish to speak against conventional medicine – it is vital in many areas. However, especially for long-term, complex, or diffuse symptoms, medicinal plants and traditional formulas can offer a gentle yet powerful alternative. Many of our customers have reported positive experiences with herbs described in the works of Stephen Harrod Buhner.

What You Should Know About Usage

1. Can herbal products have side effects?

Yes – even herbs can cause side effects. “Natural” does not automatically mean “free of side effects.” Reactions vary individually and depend on factors like dosage, interactions with other substances, metabolic type, or existing health conditions.

Most side effects occur when the dosage is too high or too many products are taken at once. In most cases, symptoms subside quickly once the supplement is reduced or discontinued.

2. How do I start using a new supplement safely?

Our recommendation: Start low and go slow!

Begin with about a quarter of the recommended daily dose and gradually increase it over 1–2 weeks, depending on how your body tolerates it. If you respond well, you can increase to the full recommended dose.

If you experience unwanted effects, hold the current dose for a few days or reduce it. If your body clearly reacts negatively, it’s best to stop using the product. Not every plant suits every person.

3. Is it okay to exceed the recommended daily dose?

The dosage listed on the label is a guideline – not a fixed rule.

Some people feel effects from small amounts, while others need higher doses to notice results. In rare cases (e.g., with chronic infections), significantly higher dosages may be necessary to achieve meaningful progress.

We’ve seen examples where customers experienced breakthroughs with five times the standard dose – and others who reacted even to half a dose. Always listen to your body.

4. How long should I take a herbal supplement?

That depends strongly on the plant. Some herbs – like licorice root – should only be used short-term. Others, like Baikal skullcap, can be taken for months or even years without concern.

As a general rule: Take regular breaks. This helps maintain effectiveness and gives your body time to reset.

5. Should I involve a doctor or holistic practitioner?

If possible: Yes!

We recommend working with a practitioner who has experience in natural or integrative medicine. It may take some effort to find the right person, but it’s worth having a partner who understands your situation and can support you along the way.

One Honest Note at the End

We receive many personal messages and inquiries each day – often very heartfelt and often quite complex. We deeply appreciate your trust and do our best to respond to every message thoughtfully and personally.

Please be patient if a reply takes a bit longer. We are not a call center – we’re a small, dedicated team with a true passion for herbal healing.

Important: While we regularly exchange ideas with doctors and pharmacists, we are not medical professionals ourselves. Our advice is based on personal experience, in-depth study of herbal medicine, and extensive feedback from our customers – but it does not replace a medical diagnosis or treatment.
