Stephania (Stephania tetrandra) tincture – made from the dried root
What is Stephania?
Stephania tetrandra is an evergreen climbing plant originally native to Taiwan and southern China. It thrives particularly well along village paths and roadsides. Under favorable conditions, it can reach impressive heights of up to 3 meters, climbing spirally upwards without producing flowers. With its green leaves arranged in a spiral along the stems, it somewhat resembles common ivy.
In our products, we use only the roots of Stephania tetrandra, as they contain the highest concentration of valuable compounds. As with all Phoenix der Lebenskraft products, purity, quality, and sustainability are our top priorities.
A true insider’s tip
Stephania tetrandra is considered one of the highly valued medicinal plants in Traditional Chinese Medicine, where it is prescribed by experienced practitioners under the name Han Fang Ji. As is customary in Chinese medicine, foods and remedies are attributed with specific properties. Stephania tetrandra is classified as bitter and cooling. Thanks to these qualities, the plant is primarily used to support nerve and blood vessel walls. In Taiwan and China, Han Fang Ji is also recommended for inflammation, body heat, and regulating body fluids.
But what are the constituents of Stephania tetrandra? Although not all components have been fully identified, the roots are known to be rich in flavonoids, alkaloids, and tetrandrine. Flavonoids are regarded as protective plant compounds for the human body, while tetrandrine, present in Stephania tetrandra, is known for its muscle-relaxing effects.
You may also be familiar with the plant from the works of Stephen Harrod Buhner, who describes Stephania tetrandra as a supportive remedy for Lyme disease.
