What is Devil’s Claw (Harpagophytum procumbens)?

Admittedly, the name “Devil’s Claw” may not sound very reassuring at first, since the word “devil” is usually associated with something negative. But don’t worry – the name comes solely from the fruits of the plant, which develop from its reddish-violet flowers. These fruits bear gnarled outgrowths that spread like claws when ripe.

This medicinal plant, with its tongue-twisting Latin name, grows exclusively on the African continent. It prefers sandy steppe regions, mainly in the savannas and the Kalahari Desert. To survive extreme drought, the plant withdraws water from its above-ground parts, which gradually wither and die. What remains is the deep-anchored root system, consisting of a thick primary root and numerous lateral roots. These serve as water and nutrient reserves and are therefore called storage roots. When you realize that the plant sacrifices all its above-ground parts to protect its roots, it becomes clear how precious Devil’s Claw truly is.

Devil’s Claw Tablets Recommended Use

The maximum daily dose is 8 (eight) tablets per day, taken with sufficient liquid and spread throughout the day.

Begin with no more than 4 tablets daily, and gradually increase over several days until you reach the full daily dose. If you experience any discomfort – especially if you generally suffer from dyspeptic complaints – remain at the lower, comfortable dose.
